Friday! Hurray! Hurray! Errr.. I mean Saturday.

via historiful.tumblr.com

Yes, apparently while I was in a flu-induces haze, I forgot to post this, even though I had it READY to go for Friday. Blergh.

Happy Friday!

I’m finally feeling a little better! How are you doing? Do you have any big weekend plans?

Yesterday Brendan and I went to Princeton New Jersey (which is such an amazing place).  We got this really amazing olive oil and strawberry balsamic at Carter & Cavero: Old World Oil Company, and visited a kitchen gadget  store called Kitchen Kapers.  It was so much fun being there, in this beyond charming college town, just the two of us focusing on each other.  It is wonderful being out together, and to feeling like we did those first few months of being together.

Here we are at Carter & Cavero:

Here I am tasting all of the delicious balsamic vinaigrettes.

There was such a huge selection of oils and vinaigrettes, we had a hard time picking our favorites.  In the end we got Truffle Extra-Virgin Olive Oil (so wonderful), Strawberry balsamic, Garlic Extra-Virgin Olive Oil, Tuscan herb Extra-Virgin Olive Oil, and Frantoio Extra-Virgin Olive Oil… Needless to say, we won’t be needing EVOO any time soon!

Also, here are somethings that I’ve been eyeing all week:

A la Patricia Blanchet

These shoes are awesome.  I’ve been wanting to find a pair similar to this for a few years, but nothing really spoke to me like these do.

I love the look of driftwood. Whenever I see a cool drift wood piece it makes me want to learn carpentry so that I could have the ability to make furniture with pieces of awesome wood like the piece above.

Brendan would never let me do this, and I’m not sure I would, but it’s pretty cool, right?

Smitten Kitchen’s Porch Swing sounds truly sumptuous.  Now that the weather is getting warming, I see myself having many a gin based cocktail on balmy New Jersey nights. Yum.

Once again, I pay homage to that glorious hue Kelly Green.  This room, designed by Christina Murphy is to die for.  Brendan and I both thought this was such a great look.  Maybe we will replicate it someday.. : )

And I’ll leave you with the sage advice of Ronald Swanson:

Have a stellar weekend! May all your dreams come true.

Spring’s A-Comin’

You know what that means: wedding season.

Now, if you’re anything like me, you dread having to find that perfect outfit.  That’s why when my friend Geri of A Girl and her Mixer, June asked me to come up with some outfit ideas for a spring wedding she’s attending, I leapt at the chance to brainstorm and overcome my wedding guest dress fear.

You guys have to go visit Geri’s website.  She is totally brilliant in the kitchen, but don’t take my work for it, look at these pictures.

Banana Coconut Muffins

Grilled Shrimp Pizza

Délicieux, non?

Okay, now that i’m hungry, let’s move on to my favorite wedding wear.

I love love love this dress. I think this cut of dress is flattering on a lot of body types, and that it won’t be going out of style any time soon.  When I saw “500 Days of Summer” I fell in love with the dress Zooey D wore, and wished that I could find one that was similar.  Look no further ladies, it’s right here. : )  I also am a fan of the moderate heel at weddings, if only because they are easier to dance in.

Cute dress, cute shoes, nice jewelry.  This dress would be comfortable and unique, garnering lots of compliments from fellow Anthro-lovers everywhere.

So, Geri said she wanted to get away from the LBD, and while I totally understand, I have to say, that the LBD is the ultimate in wedding wear.  If you want to breathe new life into that tired old black dress, pair it with a brightly colored shoe, and fun accessories. : )

I love this dress.  It feels kind of like Monet’s waterlilies, which is cool, especially after Rodarte turned Van Gogh’s paintings into fabric for Spring.

Pretty cool, right?

I hope that helped!Happy shopping!

eBay Picks of the Week

Hi,

It’s Wednesday and you know what that means eBay Picks of the Week!

1. Have a look at these lovely little boots (emphasis on little, they’re a size 5.5!).  Creamy white vintage leather boots.  These boots remind me of Jacque Demy’s 1967 Les Demoiselles de Rochefort.  If you haven’t seen it, go to Netflix immediately and watch it. A good friend of mine introduced me to the movie, and i’ve been a little obsessed since.

Here is Les Demoiselles de Rochefort

2. These Ann Demeulemeester brown leather lace-up boots are so amazing. 3. These Dries Van Noten shoes are to-die-for. I love the colors. They would add a quirky little pop of color to any outfit. Love.

4. These lovelies, made by Miu Miu are whimsical and wonderful. I love the glitter and the way the heel is curved. So COOL!

5. You could kick some serious butt with Proenza Schouler booties.

So there you have it, my eBay picks of the week. Ready…Set…BID!

Anthropologie Fresh Cuts, and other Sale Items

Confession: I am obsessed with Anthropologie. It is my favorite store in the whole world, because of its sophisticated,  unique well-made clothes.  I have been a faithful shopper for the last three years, and I have to say, no other store has come close to cooling my ardor for this store.

The only thing that i don’t like about Anthro is the fact that it is so expensive, which is why I mainly hit the sales rack when I go there, unless something is just too good to pass up. One of th important things to know about Anthropologie is that they post their new Fresh Cuts sale items on their website every Tuesday morning, and I have to say that today’s Fresh Cuts did not disappoint.  Here are my favorites:

This Zenobia Tee is on sale now for $39.95, down from$68.00.

Here is what some of the reviewers have to say about the Zenobia Tee:

  1. Sweet Tee,
    December 31, 2011

This tee has been on my wish list for ages, but I was hesitant to purchase online because of previous reviews. I was able to try on both a small and medium in the store and decided to go with a medium. It’s just personal preference. I’m 5’9″ 128lbs 34D and typically wear a small. The small wasn’t obnoxiously tight, but I felt more comfortable in a medium. I don’t find the material sheer as others have mentioned.

  2. My new go-to top with skirts.,
    December 31, 2011

I hate the way most cotton/t-shirt material tops look tucked into a skirt. This top is perfect. It hugs your body and doesn’t bunch up above the band of the skirt. The combination of the casual torso material with the lace sleeves and sheer collar make it easy to dress up or down, and it works just as well with a billowy gypsy skirt as a smart pencil skirt.

  3. Pretty but sheer,
    December 28, 2011

The sleeves on this top are beautiful, but I wish it wasn’t so sheer. I tried this with a pair of wide-leg pants, and it looked great, but there’s no way I could wear this for work without something over or under it. I have a pet peeve about wearing a cami under t-shirts, and putting something over it defeats the purpose of the pretty sleeves. If it was just a bit thicker, I would have come home with this one.

  4. Do your crunches,
    December 14, 2011
    Pros: design, great colors
Cons: size up for sure if you have a tummy
the sleeves on this top are a beautiful and unobtrusive way to participate the lace trend that has crept from fall collections right into the winter (no complaints!)… but be prepared because the fabric on the rest of the piece is quite clingy, and will not conceal those four cookies you ate at the holiday luncheon… oops.
i bought the red color in medium (TTS, in my opinion) and did end up putting a lightweight nude cami underneath, for coverage and warmth (who would be so silly as to layer this piece and cover up the lovely lace?)
i would really love to style this with a pencil skirt with heavier-weight fabric. overall, another really pretty piece i didn’t mind paying full price for.

So, the general consensus seems to be that it is a pretty shirt, that is pretty tight, so you may want to go a size up from what you would normally do.

I absolutely love this Night Phlox Blouse With it’s rich colors and wonderfully romantic puffed sleeves (It feels kind of Anne of Green Gables to me).  The Night Phlox blouse is now on sale for $59.95, down from $118.00.

Here’s what people are saying about this blouse:

  1. Beautiful blouse, ruined by sleeves,
    December 30, 2011
when i saw this top i immediately picked it up. the pattern on the blouse is beautiful, and the colors are awesome. it would be very easy match with almost anything, and it would look great with a pair of jeans.
though i loved the blouse intially, it was ruined by the sleeves. they are very big and poofy, and they almost dominate the top. also, they are a very awkward length (not quite long sleeve, not quite 3/4 sleeve).

the length of the top is great, and the quality is too. if the sleeves were different, this would be an awesome buy. many people may be able to pull this off if they like the dramatic sleeve, its not like its a bad product.

  2. So so,
    December 29, 2011
    Pros: colors
    Cons: sleeves, length
I’m not one for flowery tops, but I thought I’d give it a go.
It’s a nice material with beautiful colors, but the sleeves are just too much. It would have been more flattering if there wasn’t such a dropped shoulder. When the puffy sleeves lined up with the bust line, it made me look very wide.
Also, the shortened bottom was a bit of a hassle.

    Fits true to size.

  3. Edgy yet Elegant,
    December 7, 2011
    Pros: it’s pretty

I really like this blouse. It can go anywhere and be worn with anything. The orange (my favoirite color) contrasts nicely with the blue. It makes sense since those colors are on opposite sides of the color wheel. I just love how the silk feels on my skin. I have no complaints with this. I’m 5’3″ 34B and I’m wearing a 4 in the picture.

  4. Prettier in Person,
    November 8, 2011
    Pros: surprisingly versatile

This lovely blouse looks much better in person! I bought it to wear with the Anthro orange lace skirt & jeans. It has poets shoulders, snug at the elbow (I left it unbuttoned) & looked good tucked into the skirt. It is a true navy & gold infused orange – very versatile blouse!

So, people had problems with the sleeves, but I’m thinking that if you’re wanting a nice statement piece that is a little bit more edgy, as reviewer three said, this is your top!

So the rest of my favorite garments are not fresh cuts, but still on sale now.

These Fairisle Clog Boots are so beautiful, and look like they would keep you warm! What a great statement piece! The boots are now on sale for $149.95, down from $278.00.  Here’s what reviewers say

  1. Sanitas are awesome,
    January 5, 2012

I have a ‘vintage’ pair of Sanita booties, so I ordered the 39 (my normal size) and they fit great. They are clogs and wear as one should expect – the sole does not bend, but there is tons of support and comfort.
These are very cute, and the print works out as neutral, very versatile.
Highly recommend at the sale price, they will last forever.

  2. Love hate relationship,
    January 3, 2012
    Pros: adorable on
Cons: no foot bed liner so slippery inside, fit
I suppose I’ve no one but myself to blame. Ordered them when the additional 30% off was on offer. They came. I liked the way they looked. I am petite, with curvy calves, and was worried these might make my legs look shorter. Was surprised to find that this was not a problem with my dark skinny jeans, and even with black tights, and a knee length skirt. I get gobs of compliments on them too.
However, the fit is less than optimal and I don’t see myself wearing them on long shopping trips anytime soon. I ordered one size up as suggested. In the dimension of length I’m glad for it, because my foot slides forward at every step, causing my toe to bump the front of the boot. Meanwhile they are exceedingly wide, and my heel sloshes about in the back. Partly this is due to the fact that there is no lining in the foot bed at all. You’re sliding around on polished wood, very slippery indeed with luxuriantly thick winter socks. I’ve begun to amend these deficits by adding pads in the foot ball area of the shoe, but am still not entirely satisfied.

Yeah, could have returned them… but, wowzers, they’re cute!!

  3. Unbelievable comfort for a stylish heel.,
    December 29, 2011
Molds to your feet after a couple wears, Sanita has been around since 1906 and the Danish know how to make clogs. The boot has grip to make it slip resistant even for a 3 inch heel. Every time I wear them they get more comfortable I even forget I am wearing boots which is amazing.

Also a pretty warm boot that can be worn comfortably all 3 seasons

Mmmm-hm! Looks like I will be saving my pennies for these bad boys!

I hope you enjoyed my Anthropologie Picks as much as I did! What are your favorite stores?
