Love Story: A Mid-Century Modern Love Affair

Look at what I found while thrifting with my wonderful Aunt Cindy.  When we went to Thrift Village a few days ago, we never expected to find something like this set of furniture.  The dresser (which we would use as a buffet downstairs in our living room) was in wonderful condition.  There were very few imperfections on the dresser, which given the dresser’s age, was truly amazing.

Sorry about the pictures, it was really hard to get a full shot of the dresser.

The dresser came with this cute little night stand, which we would use in our living room as an end table.

The set also came with a headboard that was not in good condition, but I plan on painting it grey to go in our guest bedroom!

I am so excited about these pieces, guys.  I think I’ve pretty much got Brendan on board too (B, if you’re reading this, do I have you yet? I’m blogging about it, so now it has  to happen…Right?).

One of the best things about this set of furniture is that we can use it in other rooms later if we want.  I have searched Craigslist for buffets and other Mid-Century gems, and they have all been super super expensive.  For the set above, they are charging $150! Such an amazing price.  If everything goes as planned we’ll go and buy them tomorrow (if they are still there!!) and then ask my Aunt if we can borrow her van to get them to our house. I am so excited.

You would get it too, if you were me… Right?

Katie

eBay Picks of the Week

Hi,

It’s Wednesday and you know what that means eBay Picks of the Week!

1. Have a look at these lovely little boots (emphasis on little, they’re a size 5.5!).  Creamy white vintage leather boots.  These boots remind me of Jacque Demy’s 1967 Les Demoiselles de Rochefort.  If you haven’t seen it, go to Netflix immediately and watch it. A good friend of mine introduced me to the movie, and i’ve been a little obsessed since.

Here is Les Demoiselles de Rochefort

2. These Ann Demeulemeester brown leather lace-up boots are so amazing. 3. These Dries Van Noten shoes are to-die-for. I love the colors. They would add a quirky little pop of color to any outfit. Love.

4. These lovelies, made by Miu Miu are whimsical and wonderful. I love the glitter and the way the heel is curved. So COOL!

5. You could kick some serious butt with Proenza Schouler booties.

So there you have it, my eBay picks of the week. Ready…Set…BID!

xoxo,

Katie

Moonrise Kingdom: Le Temps de l’Amour

Have you seen the trailer for Wes Anderson’s latest film, Moonrise Kingdom? I have been super excited about this movie from the moment I heard another Anderson pic was in the works and that TILDA SWINTON was going to be in it.  I have always liked Tilda Swinton, but her work in Luca Guadagnino’s I am Love cinched it for me, and now I love her.  In case you have not seen I am Love  it is still on instant-view on Netflix.  I am Love is a visual feast.  It’s sumptuous, rich and sinfully good.  Do yourself a favor and go see it! Anywho, back to Moonrise Kingdom,  this film is particularly exciting because not only is this Anderson’s first period piece (set in the 1960’s), but it is also his first to star children Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward. Before you start to think that this film is a children’s movie, note that it is rated PG-13, so it is definitely still catering toward adults.

"I'll be out back. I have a tree to chop down"

Anderson got some of the proverbial band back together. Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray- you almost can’t have a Wes Anderson film without them.  He also brought in Bruce Willis, Edward Norton,Frances McDormand and Harvey Keitel (Really? Harvey Keitel I suppose stranger things have happened).

The film deals with two twelve year-old’s falling in love and making a pact to run away together.  Various groups on the small New England island band together to find them, when a storm blows into town.  Craziness and that delightful Andersonian quirkiness ensues as the town is turned upside-down, and it seems as if that might not be such a bad thing.

Here is the movie trailer:

What is your favorite Wes Anderson film? Also, here are some pictures of Brendan and I at a Wes Anderson party my best friend Stephanie threw (she is the coolest).

"I think we're just gonna to have to be secretly in love with each other and leave it at that, Ritchie. "

We had a lot of fun at that party.  Which is why I will be dressing up in my best vintage duds in celebration of Moonrise Kingdom when I go to see it opening night.

Have a great weekend!!

Oh, if you were wondering who sang that delightful song in the trailer, that would be French chanteuse Francoise Hardy, “Le Temps De l’Amour.

Enjoy!
