Lancaster, PA

Good morning,

Unfortunately, I left my camera at my aunt’s house last night, so you’ll have to wait for Ocean City, New Jersey pictures for a while.  This morning I am going to Lancaster Pennsylvania with my aunts.  I am so excited to go see the beautiful country side.  I wonder if I’ll feel like I’ve traveled back through time, as  Amish people drive by in horse-drawn buggies.  I will be snapping away, so be looking for pictures.

I hope you had a good weekend full of laughter and good conversation.

xoxo,

Katie

Friday! Hurray! Hurray!

Hi there,

it’s been awhile, huh? Sorry about the lack of posts lately.  What can I say? I actually have a life now…Sort of. 😉  Speaking of which, this weekend one of aunts will be in town and we are running around South Jersey today, having a sleep over (Brendan’s coming too!) tonight, and doing the shore tomorrow.  I am so excited to do the beach, and in a retro suit no less.It looks something like this, but in chocolate-brown, with a sweetheart neckline:

I am so excited to spend time with my family this weekend.  I will be taking a ton of pictures and making up some posts about our time.

Alright everyone, who’s with me? Onward to the beach!

The Master and Commander of Pastry

Hi there,

Mother’s Day is approaching!  What will you be doing for your mothers? This is the first year that I will be spending Mother’s Day apart from my mom; and I’ll admit that I’m sad.  It’s hard to spend holidays apart from your family.  My wonderful Aunt Cindy knows what it is to be far away from family, having re-located to the east coast about  sixteen years ago,so when she invited us to spend Mother’s Day with her, I was relieved. Spending time with her, my Uncle Bob, and their boys, makes me feel a lot less homesick.

In honor of the day and my sweet aunt, we will be going to Longwood Gardens.

Doesn’t it look beautiful? We are really looking forward to spending the day with my aunt and uncle and their boys.  We will be having a picnic lunch in the gardens while we are there, and I want to make something special for everyone.

Here’s what I’m thinking:

Flower cupcakes! Appropriate, non?  This icing tutorial from Loralee Lewis will be a tremendous help. So I would make a nice vanilla cupcake, with a butter cream frosting…

Or, I could riff on this wonderful Mascarpone-Filled Cake with Sherried Berries recipe, only have mascarpone frosting, with a few dainty berries on the top of the cake…

This is actually my favorite cake to make. It impresses everyone, and it isn’t hard to make at all. You should try this! Seriously, what are you waiting for? You will be crowned Cake Queen or King..No, the Mayor of Cake Town… The Ambassador of Delicious Flavor.. I’m finished now, sorry… I tend to get over-excited about pastry.

I hope you are having a glorious Monday.

xoxo,

Katie

Friday! Hurray! Hurray!

By Grace Robertson

Happy Friday everyone!

I hope you all have had a good week.  What are you doing this weekend? Anything exciting?

I got my ukulele in the mail yesterday, so i’ve been practicing, and having fun with her. Sadie (the Ukulele) and I are going to be good friends. This Saturday I’m having a ukulele lesson with my best friend Stephanie over skype, so that will be fun.

Brendan is gone for the weekend, being brilliant for a bunch of economist types at a conference in Boone North Carolina, so Dexter and I are all by our onesies… er, twosies. To stave off the sadness I plan on taking advantage of the beautiful South Jersey weather and paint something outside.

Now I know I said that my roman shades post was coming this week, but in our rush to put them up, I forgot to take a few key pictures, so I need to take one  down to get them.

Instead of sharing my shades, I thought I would share some things that are inspiring me as of late.

Bar Carts: I love how old school it is with the crystal and the blue glass. The flowers are such a nice touch. I would love to have this in my house.  The only problem is, Brendan doesn’t really drink, and I really like mostly gin based  drinks, sooo… It would be a sort of empty bar cart lol.

Campaign Chest are the best. I have plans to make a few for our Asian styled bedroom.

Mint and gold… What a great color combination. I’ve basically run out of rooms to decorate. but if I had another, it would be done in these colors.

That’s all for now. I hope you have the best weekend ever.

Meet my Family

I figured that it was time for you to meet my family officially.  We are a small family, just myself, Brendan my husband, and Dexter the Dog. Here we are below:

Before Brendan and I got married (three and half months ago) and moved to New Jersey, I made him promise me that we would get a puppy, so that I wouldn’t miss my parent’s dog quite so much.  We found Dex through SOS Beagle Rescue, a great non-profit that operates out of Southern NJ, Alabama and Tennessee.  We could not have been luckier with Dexter, he has been a source of great joy and entertainment.

Look at that face!!

This dog is such a little love. Very playful, loving, and naughty in the extreme.

Here is an example of how naughty this dog is:

Poor Dexter, I guess he can’t resist my rain boots…After being fussed at, he moved on to Brendan’s flip flops… The beagle loves shoes- yet another characteristic that let’s me know that he fits in well here.

Dexy is the best dog ever, you should come over and pet him- you will agree. You don’t live in New Jersey? I’m very sorry for you. He is the best.

Brendan is an Economics professor at a local college in South Jersey, and is so far loving his job, which he just started four months ago.  He is an exceedingly excellent educator who cares about his students- even as he yells at them to really learn how to graph.  He has the best sense of humor, and can always make me laugh. He is kind, generous, and helps me take myself a little less seriously. He’s my best friend.

Brendan and I met in college as he was finishing his Ph.D. and I was an undergrad.  I will share our love story some other time, but suffice to say, we became friends, and after a few years of friendship, and after telling him, “no,” a few times, our relationship grew and flourished into a beautiful love story. There is nothing quite so wonderful as falling asleep at night holding hands with your best friend.

Here is a picture from our wedding.  In case you are wondering, these pictures were taken by Lauren Button of ElleBee Photography .  If you live in the Southwest, Arizona area and need pictures, Lauren is your girl!

And this is me, Katie. I am a lover of fashion, film, and cooking. I love 1960’s french pop, and La Nouvelle Vauge. I am tad bit obsessed with Pinterest, and I love surfing the interwebs for beautiful things.  I love Anthropologie, and anthropology. I spent the last five years of my life in college soaking up information on Native Americans of the Southwest, evolutionary forces that shaped women’s bodies, and have a deep and abiding love for Greek and Roman art and architecture.  I’m the kind of person who cries (just a little bit) when I see something beautiful, and often laughs at inappropriate things.  Love The Smiths, and indie films…That is me in a nutshell.

Tell me about yourself? I’d love to meet you, too. : )

xoxo,

Katie
